Typhoon Standby Signal to be Issued by Hong Kong Weather Bureau on Wednesday Night
A tropical cyclone is predicted to move within 800km (497 miles) of Hong Kong, with the potential to bring winds, heavy showers, thunderstorms, and swells over the weekend. The cyclone's movement and intensity may change as it approaches.
The Hong Kong Observatory made these predictions at around noon on Wednesday. In response, they will issue the No 1 standby signal on Wednesday night, signalling that the city is on standby for potential adverse weather conditions.
The weather forecaster expects the cyclone to bring unsettled weather to the region starting from Friday. The local weather will become unsettled on Friday, under the influence of the outer rainbands associated with the tropical storm. The weather on the weekend will be influenced by the same outer rainbands.
The tropical storm's influence will result in windy conditions over the weekend, with occasional heavy squally showers and thunderstorms. The swells are also expected to increase over the weekend, under the influence of the tropical storm.
As of now, the storm's path does not appear to directly affect Hong Kong. However, it is expected to move in the general direction of the coast of eastern Guangdong province, and no specific information is provided about the potential impact on this region.
On Thursday evening, the Hong Kong Observatory issued a Tropical Storm Warning Signal No. 3, expecting heavy rain, strong winds, and possible flooding in Hong Kong over the weekend. The storm is expected to intensify gradually, but its exact path and intensity remain uncertain.
Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather updates and to take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
