Tyler Herro, from Miami, is scheduled for a surgery and will likely miss the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
Miami Heat to Face Challenges as Tyler Herro Undergoes Foot/Ankle Surgery
The Miami Heat are set to begin the 2025-26 season without the production of Tyler Herro, their starting shooting guard, who will undergo foot/ankle surgery weeks before training camp.
Herro, who was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft out of Kentucky, has been a full-time starter for the Heat since the 2022-23 season. In the 2024-24 season, he played 77 games and set a new career-high, averaging 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
The ankle/foot impingement that has been bothering Herro since mid-summer did not subside, necessitating foot/ankle surgery. The surgery is deemed necessary to prevent further issues, and the length of time Miami Heat can survive without Herro's contribution remains to be seen.
In his six seasons with the team, Herro has played in 361 games and made 217 starts. He was voted a first-time all-star last season and has been a vital part of the Heat's lineup.
Bam Adebayo, a veteran player on the Heat, will play a significant role in the team's lineup while Herro is out. Adebayo is entering his ninth season with the Heat and has averaged 20+ points per game only once in his career.
The Heat acquired Norman Powell this offseason through a multi-team deal. Powell averaged a career-high 21.8 points per game last season and the Heat hope to see similar production from him. Miami Heat's Andrew Wiggins is also a veteran player who will contribute to the team while Herro is out.
Anthony Chiang, Miami Heat insider, reported that Herro will not be available to begin the upcoming season. The search results do not provide information on who performed the surgery on Herro's foot/ankle before the Miami Heat training camps.
As the Heat prepare for the upcoming season, they will have to rely on their depth and the contributions of their veteran players to fill the void left by Herro's absence.
