Two upcoming Archie Comics adaptations are reportedly in development.
In the world of DC Universe, Peacemaker is set to return for a second season, delving deeper into the life of Christopher Smith, the man behind the mask. According to reports, the new season will find Smith discovering a parallel dimension where his life is vastly improved, with his father Auggie and brother Kevin alive and forming a heroic family group called The Top Trio.
The season opener sees Smith living in his deceased father's house, where he stumbles upon a quantum chamber acting as a doorway to this alternate world. The plot unfolds as Smith unintentionally kills his alternate self in this dimension, leading him to assume that identity to live the better life he never had.
The second season of Peacemaker is set a few months before the events of the upcoming Superman movie, integrating Peacemaker more closely into the new DC Universe continuity. The storyline serves as a connective tissue for the DCU, highlighting Smith’s ongoing struggle to be taken seriously as a hero despite his violent history and morally questionable actions.
As the season progresses, Smith attempts to join the Justice Gang, a flawed superhero team in the wider DC Universe. The story delves deeper into Smith’s personal journey, showing his conflict between his violent past and his hope for redemption and acceptance. The parallel dimension portrays a more emotionally fulfilling reality for Smith, but his presence there involves tension, particularly after killing his variant and navigating unfamiliar relationships, including with his alternate brother.
James Gunn, the creator of Peacemaker, has announced that the second season will focus more on the character of Christopher Smith, the man, rather than his superhero alter ego. This approach promises to offer a more personal and introspective look at Smith's journey, exploring themes of identity, family, heroism, and belonging within a multiverse setting that expands the Peacemaker story into broader DCU territory.
Meanwhile, in other news, FX has released a trailer for "Observation", the next episode of Alien: Earth. Elsewhere, Jason Momoa and David Leitch are attached to produce The Pirate, a pitch package based on a spec script from writer Will Dunn, described as The Raid set on a pirate ship.
In the realm of science fiction, images from Foundation's End, the latest episode of Foundation, have been released, showing chaos and destruction on New Terminus and Dusk and Quent uniting to assess the state of the galaxy. In the world of Star Trek, an episode titled What Is Star Trek? of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been released, featuring images of the Enterprise crew having dinner together.
The cast of Luca Guadagnino's comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence, titled Artificial, has expanded with the addition of Will Angus, Thaddea Graham, Nicholas Hamilton, Angus Imrie, and Will Price. Finally, Eric Andre has joined the cast of the new Street Fighter movie in an undisclosed role, likely to be ring announcer, Don Sauvage.
