Two suspects apprehended in Manila for the gunfire incident targeting Japanese citizens.
In a shocking turn of events, Philippine police have arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting of two Japanese nationals that took place in Manila last week.
The victims, a 53-year-old and a 42-year-old, were traveling in the Philippines when they were targeted. The shooting occurred on Friday evening at around 10:40 p.m. local time, as the victims were heading to their hotel.
Contrary to initial reports, the shooting did not occur inside the taxi. Instead, it took place immediately after the victims left the vehicle. The man who carried out the shooting instructed them to step out of the taxi before firing the fatal shots.
The suspects, identified as brothers Albert Manabat (50) and Abel Manabat (62), were arrested by the police on Monday. Abel Manabat, who is also a tour guide, is believed to have acted as the driver for one of the victims during a previous trip. He is suspected to have been asked to carry out the attack in exchange for a significant sum of money.
Investigations suggest that a Japanese national living in Japan may be the mastermind behind the hiring of the suspects. This individual, believed to be in financial trouble with the victims, allegedly ordered the killings. The brothers were reportedly paid an initial amount of 10,000 Philippine pesos (approximately US$174) for their services, with the promise of a larger sum upon successful completion of the task.
The police are currently investigating to locate other potential accomplices, including the gunman who shot the victims. The attack is believed to have been a carefully planned ambush, possibly motivated by the financial dispute between the mastermind and the victims.
As the investigation continues, the Philippine authorities have assured the public that they are doing everything in their power to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of all tourists visiting the country.
