Two Players Discredited from the Nexo Championship Due to Independent Infractions
British Golfers Disqualified from Nexo Championship
In a surprising turn of events at the Nexo Championship, held at Trump International Golf Links in Scotland, two British players, Sam Bairstow and Calum Hill, were disqualified from the tournament.
Sam Bairstow's disqualification came due to an error in his score at the par-4 14th hole. After missing the fairway off the tee, Bairstow played a provisional ball. He tapped in his bogey, but forgot to add a penalty stroke. Consequently, he marked the score as five instead of the actual seven. This incorrect signed scorecard led to his disqualification.
Calum Hill, on the other hand, was disqualified for failing to hole out on a putt, which is against the rules of golf. This violation occurred during play.
Bairstow was six-over as he made the turn in the second round, with a likely cut line of three-over. Hill finished round one on four-over and struggled in the subsequent round.
Both Bairstow and Hill were among the betting favorites for the Nexo Championship. Bairstow's only full week finish since May was a T65th at the Genesis Scottish Open, while Hill made a second birdie of the week on the par-4 fifth hole in the second round.
However, Hill's tournament ended less than 24 hours later when he failed to hole out on a putt during play, leading to his disqualification.
These separate incidents led to both British players being removed from the tournament before the end of the second round at Trump International Golf Links in Scotland.
