🎄 Dresden's Striezelmarket: Two Million Visitors in 2023, Almost at Pre-Pandemic Levels 🎄

Although the Coronavirus pandemic continues to cast a shadow, Dresden's Striezelmarket is welcoming almost two million visitors in 2023, coming close to pre-pandemic numbers. Mayor Jan Pratzka, Economics, commends the event's resilience, reflecting a lively and steady influx since its commencement. Tourists too have flocked to Dresden, adding to the market's charm.

Moreover, festive revelers have swilled over 140,000 liters of glühwein (mulled wine), reaping a 20% increase in volume over last year. By the market's conclusion on December 25, approximately 720,000 Striezelmarkt cups will be sanitized, and around 79,000 deposit cups will be sold as keepsakes or gifts – a 1,000-piece surge compared to 2022. Over 20,000 more unique "Striezel" tokens will be in demand, totalling approximately 67,000 overall.

From November 27 to Christmas Eve, 200-plus merchants will adorn the marketplace with their wares, maintaining Dresden's position as the host of Germany's oldest Christmas market. Local miners' orchestras, trombone choirs, and puppet shows form an appealing lineup of events across 179 scheduled performances.

The Striezelwache has reported 19 misdeeds and attempted offenses up to December 23, including purse and bag thefts and counterfeit coin circulation. Unauthorized drone flights in the area have also been recorded, with four violations, plus 104 instances of first aid provided by paramedics. Local loss and found reports consisted of a wedding ring, reflex camera, and three-laptop bag.

The 590th Striezelmarket in Dresden is set to take place from November 27 to December 24, 2024.
