Two individuals, identified as Bilbija and Paderborn double-packer, successfully halted an infection at Hertha.
In a scorching hot Berlin Olympic Stadium, SC Paderborn clinched an impressive 2-0 victory over a COVID-19 depleted Hertha BSC in the 6th matchday of the 2. Bundesliga.
The first half ended with a narrow 1-0 lead for SC Paderborn, thanks to a stunning goal from Filip Bilbija in the 36th minute. The Berlin native curled the ball into the far corner, leaving Hertha BSC's goalkeeper with no chance.
The second half saw SC Paderborn extend their lead, with Bilbija scoring his second goal from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, following a handball by Kennet Eichhorn.
Despite the defeat, the attendance remained high, with 44,718 spectators cheering on both teams.
Hertha BSC, who have been struggling this season, failed to pose a significant threat in the second half. The absence of several key players due to COVID-19 infections earlier in the week seemed to have taken its toll on their performance.
SC Paderborn came close to scoring a third goal in the second half, but Hertha BSC managed to hold on, securing a 2-0 (1-0) defeat.
Felix Götze made a crucial clearance in the 21st minute, denying Dawid Kownacki a potential equaliser. Bilbija also had an early opportunity to score for SC Paderborn in the 2nd minute of the match.
SC Paderborn's victory moves them within two points of the league leaders, while Hertha BSC remain in the bottom third of the table with just 5 points.
With the COVID-19 situation continuing to affect teams, it remains to be seen how the rest of the season will play out. However, one thing is for sure - SC Paderborn will be looking to build on this impressive victory when they face their next opponents.
