Two football clubs, Los Angeles FC and Club América, are expected to take Club León's spot in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Title: NFLA vs Club América Battle for the Club World Cup Spot Left Vacant by Club León

Get ready for a thrilling face-off between Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) and Club América! FIFA has announced a winner-takes-all playoff to fill the empty Club World Cup spot previously held by Club León, who were disqualified due to multi-club ownership regulations.

FIFA disqualified Club León from participating, with Pachuca, another qualified team, coming under scrutiny due to the shared ownership by Grupo Pachuca. Club León hollered at this decision and threw an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overrule it, but to no avail. The CAS panel sifted through the papers, considered the shady trust established by Club León's owners, and concluded that it failed to meet FIFI's compliance requirements, which means the club will remain out of the tournament, while Pachuca will stay qualified.

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA), the Costa Rican side that snatched the 2023 Central American Cup, attempted to find a way in as the next eligible contender. However, CAS nixed their appeal, leaving FIFA to decide who would step in and take Club León's place in Group D. That slot will now be contested between LAFC and Club América.

LAFC previously brawled it out with Club León in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League final, while Club América holds the crown as the top-ranking team in the confederation still not qualified for the tournament. The winner of this nail-biting match will secure Club León's spot in Group D, joining powerhouses like Chelsea, Flamengo, and Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

This showdown is set to go down somewhere in the United States from June 15 until July 13. Make sure you don't miss this hotly anticipated event!

By the way, James Rodriguez recently threw some shade at FIFA for their treatment of Club León in the upcoming 2025 Club World Cup. FIFA has set aside a cool billion dollars for the tournament's prize money, and the winner of this year's playoff will take home nearly ten million dollars of that loot.
