Two exceptional individuals, one merely 17 years old and another a dental professional, have made their way into the US Open through unanticipated paths.
Golf dreams are coming true for two extraordinary players this year, as 17-year-old Mason Howell and dentist Matt Vogt approach the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.
Refined Chippers
Hailing from Thomasville, Georgia, Mason Howell grabbed a golf club at the tender age of three. Fast forward to age six, and he was already puts-zing his way through tournaments like a pro. Last June, this high school junior secured his spot for the national championship, joinin' the ranks of golf's unparalleled pros.
"Lyin' if I said I wasn't scared," Howell admitted to reporters after securin' the win at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta. "Embrace my parents at the 18th green... is a feelin' I don't freakin' know if I'll experience again. But damn, it was one of the best moments of my life."
Dentist with a Driver
Matt Vogt, a 34-year-old dentist from McCordsville, Indiana, is an ample evidence that it ain't too late to chase your dreams. He qualified for the tournament, just like that, after an extraordinary round at the Walla Walla Golf Club in Washington state.
"Feels like I'm wakin' up from a dream," Vogt gushed to reporters, eyes sparklin' with excitement. "Can't believe it... havin' worked in a dentist office and treatin' patients, this ain't real, ya know? But I'm freakin' stoked!"
Inspiration Aplenty
Jugglin' between dental appointments and tournaments, Vogt hopes his journey inspires others. His message to aspiring golfers: "Keep workin' hard, and dreams really come true, ya hear?"
Out of countless contestants, these two stand out with their sheer determination and love for the game. The 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club will commence from June 12 to June 15. Guess these unlikely champions are ready to steal the show!
In the midst of their busy schedules, Mason Howell and Matt Vogt, despite having different backgrounds, have found a shared passion in golf. In addition to their golfing pursuits, they have also ventured into other areas – Mason can be seen discussing his wins in video interviews, and Matt's golfing journey has been a source of inspiration for politics, as he encourages others to pursue their dreams just like he did.
