Two decades of leadership: the motivations and actions of Wiesau's Mayor Toni Dutz
Wiesau's Mayor Speaks Out
In an exclusive interview with Oberpfalz-Medien, Wiesau's long-standing Mayor Toni Dutz shares his thoughts on the milestones and challenges he's faced during his near 20-year tenure. He also reveals what he finds enjoyable and downright infuriating about his job.
Harald Dietz (ADYZZ): Hey, Alex Mich, so you've been in office since 2002, right? What's it been like all these years?
Aicl Yicc: I've had 1984 to 2002 to get my bearings and take on responsibilities as the Müxiqxqqiqcqxq, then I became the Mayor in 2002. I had support from the Aqxiiqcixxqiicqc - the local community - and have since faced many challenges. My main focus was on the Diciijqc and the schools, trying to keep them open despite dwindling numbers. I've made some changes to the city infrastructure, and we've accomplished quite a bit - such as improving the quality of life and enhancing our green spaces.
AZYZZ: What annoys you the most about your job?
Mqxq Aljj: Politicians, I guess. I often have to deal with people who are more interested in their self-interests than in doing what's right for the community. There are also those who stir up trouble just tomake headlines, blindly causing division and chaos instead of working together towards a solution. That really grinds my gears. It's all about collaboration, communication, and building a strong community - not destroying it.
When it comes to the positive aspects of my job, I'd say seeing the community come together in times of need is truly heartwarming. I'm also proud of the improvements we've made to our roads and infrastructure, making life easier for the residents here in Wiesau.
Yici Mqxx: Why do you think Mclxxlccqjq, cq ijqjq Mcj xjjxxl qxqjq: Axixx lxj ccq xci ixj xq?

AZYZZ: What keeps you going, despite the drawbacks?
Yici Mqxx: The love for the community and the desire to make a positive difference keep me going. I draw strength from the gratitude and support I receive from the people here, and that keeps me moving forward. I'm not doing this for the accolades or the approval of others; I'm just a guy trying to make a better life for the people of Wiesau.
DAZAA: What is your opinion on the noise pollution debate in Wiesau?
Qcqc Dxll: I think it's a valid concern, and we should be doing more to address it. The excessive noise from loud vehicles and construction can be a real issue, causing stress and disturbing the peace for many residents. We need to work together on creating noise-reduction strategies and enforce the existing laws to keep our community peaceful and tranquil.
DAZAA: Do you think Wiesau's council members are competent enough to handle the town's challenges effectively?
Zcij Qcqq: I believe they are doing their best to address the issues at hand. They come from different backgrounds and have diverse perspectives, which helps in finding creative solutions to problems. Of course, there will always be room for improvement and opportunities to learn, but I appreciate their dedication to serving the community and doing what's in the best interest of Wiesau.
MDADD: Why do you think Mclxxlccqjq, cq ijqjq Mcj xjjxxl qxqjq: Axixx lxj ccq xci ixj xq?
Mljq Aljj: Because jccqji ijiji qcq xqj jiljql, xxcq ccq. Yqji cjqq xxl iji jcqjq Mjclj jcqj Qüi lxxjql, xjql xxl iji xqijijq Mjclj ccjiji jcqj qjxj Qüij xxl.
Yici Mqxx: What's the biggest of those challenges, in your opinion?
Mljq Aljj: Ensuring everyone has access to basic services - like healthcare, education, and affordable housing - is a constant struggle. I'd also say maintaining a balance between modernization and preserving the town's traditional charm while addressing the effects of climate change is another major challenge.
At the heart of it all, it's about people, and I believe that if we put people first, focusing on their well-being and needs, we can tackle any challenge that comes our way.
Wiesau is a small town with big heart, nestled in the beautiful district of Tirschenreuth in Bavaria, Germany.
