In the heart of the Middle East, the ongoing Gaza offensive continues to unfold, with significant developments reported daily.

Israeli Army Chief Eyal Samir is leading the offensive, employing a strategic combination of ground troops, precision strikes, and high-quality intelligence. The objective is to intensify attacks on the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas until it is finally defeated.

The conflict, triggered by a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, has claimed numerous lives. According to Hamas-controlled civil defense, at least 12 more people were killed in Israeli air strikes alone overnight into Wednesday. Israeli reports state that more than 1,200 people were killed in the large-scale attack, and 251 others were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip. Currently, 47 people are still being held by Hamas, with 25 of them already dead, as per Israeli reports. In response, Israel has reported over 64,960 people killed by Hamas authorities so far.

The Israeli army began the offensive and the use of ground troops in Gaza in the early hours of Tuesday. The offensive has seen the Israeli army report that over 150 terrorist targets in Gaza have been hit by the air force and artillery units.

The European Union (EU) Commission has presented a sanctions package to increase pressure on the Israeli government due to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The sanctions package includes a partial suspension of the EU's association agreement with Israel, as well as sanctions against two right-wing extremist Israeli ministers, extremist Israeli settlers, and members of Hamas.

Key allies like the United States typically provide significant support to Israel, though there is no recent confirmation of military aid in this context. Countries supporting Israel in the current Gaza offensive are not specifically mentioned in the available reports.

The German government has criticized the Israeli military operation, stating it "only leads to more dead, injured, and displaced". The German government also calls for an immediate ceasefire and a significant increase in humanitarian aid for people in the Gaza Strip.

Residents of Gaza are urged by the Israeli army to leave the city area via the coastal road to the south, towards a "humanitarian zone". The Salah al-Din street has been opened as a new escape route in the Gaza Strip, running from north to south through the center of the city.

Pope Leo XIV has expressed his "deep solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza" and called for an immediate ceasefire. He also urged Hamas to release the remaining Israeli hostages.

The Israeli army estimates that 2,000 to 3,000 Hamas fighters are active in the area. Effie Defrin, the Israeli army spokesman, expects the offensive to continue until the war aims are achieved.

The situation in Gaza is a complex and evolving one, with both sides calling for a ceasefire. As the world watches, the hope remains for a peaceful resolution to this conflict.
