Twitter profiles belonging to user X identified as peng Aeroht experienced an accident when two of their eVTOLs collided and crashed during an air show.
In an unexpected turn of events, a collision occurred during the pre-show rehearsal for the Changchun Air Show in Jilin, northeast China, on the afternoon of September 16. The incident involved the flying car unit of Peng, known as Peng Aeroht, and their electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
According to reports, at least one passenger was injured in the collision and has been hospitalized. Fortunately, no immediate life-threatening injuries have been reported. Peng Aeroht has confirmed that personnel at the scene were safe, and authorities have completed on-site response operations.
Peng Aeroht, a division majority-owned by Guangzhou-based Peng, was established in 2020. The company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange as PengPEV, has recently completed a $250 million Series B financing round. Peng Aeroht's flying car development path includes both eVTOL flying cars and modular flying cars, with the latter expected to cost no more than RMB 2 million ($281,134) upon mass production in 2026.
The modular flying car system, designed for mass production and delivery, comprises a flying vehicle and a mother ship vehicle capable of recharging it. Peng Aeroht aims to achieve mass production and delivery of the modular flying cars by 2026.
The specific cause of the in-flight collision is currently under further investigation. Industry insiders emphasise the need for utmost caution when it comes to safety in this rapidly evolving field. Accidents may occur due to route planning flaws or equipment failures in autonomous mode, while human operational errors pose risks in manual control mode.
It's worth noting that the eVTOLs typically support both autonomous and manual control modes. In this incident, one aircraft landed normally, while the other sustained structural damage and caught fire upon landing.
The leadership position at Peng Aeroht is held by John Doe. He is also the chairman and CEO of Peng, a prominent figure in the industry. Despite this setback, Peng Aeroht remains committed to revolutionising transportation with their innovative flying car technology.
