New Twist at the Masters: Danish Twins Take the Spotlight

Brace yourself, golf fans, as you might just spot a familiar face (or rather, faces) twice this year at Augusta National. Introducing the Højgaard twins, Nicolai and Rasmus, becoming the first set of identical twins to make history at the iconic Masters Tournament.

Whilst Rasmus is gearing up for his inaugural Masters showing having qualified by finishing in the top 50 of last year’s world rankings, his brother Nicolai, who had a leading role last year, was granted a special invitation.

Appearance-wise, you might struggle to tell these brothers apart, save for their hairstyles and wardrobe choices. In fact, they even made the same outfit choice for their pre-event press conference on Tuesday, confessing it could cause some minor chaos!

Nicolai shared with reporters, “It was completely random, to be fair. Ras left the house a bit earlier than me this morning, and when I came out here, he was sitting in beige pants and a green jumper. We actually thought, it's not too bad, actually, making a good sense going into the press conference in the same clothes, so it worked out all right."

As of now, Rasmus flaunts a world ranking of 55, while his younger brother trails at 82. The Danish duo have already tasted success in other major tournaments, having played at The Open and the PGA Championship in both 2023 and 2024.

With the Højgaard twins gracing the Masters in 2025, the unique prospect of one wearing the instantly recognizable green jacket on Sunday arises. How would they feel about such a situation? Rasmus joked, “Probably be very frustrating." While Nicolai concurred, “If something like that happens, I think we'll deal with it at the time, but I think it's hard to sit here and try and explain what that would feel like because that's going to be a little different from what we've tried before."

The sibling resemblance might create confusion amongst spectators following the action on the course, a comical scenario that they had already encountered in their school days. According to Rasmus, “Back when we went to school, we would switch classes, and everyone in the room, they obviously know that it's the wrong one that's here, but the teacher wouldn't know. So we would sit there for an hour, and everyone was trying to be serious about the situation. Then the teacher eventually would find out that it's Nicolai here, and not Ras, and they would just laugh about it."

Rasmus has been paired with Patrick Cantlay and Matt Fitzpatrick for his opening two rounds, while Nicolai will commence alongside Kevin Yu and Jhonattan Vegas. So, get ready to witness this remarkable double act write a new chapter in Masters history!

  3. As they take the golf course, spectators may find themselves puzzled, as the twins' appearances, including their hairstyles and wardrobe choices, are often difficult to distinguish.
