In the wee hours of April 16, 2025, tragedy struck the coast of Brighton when 21-year-old Betty Matilda Griffiths, a resident of Lewes, met her untimely end. The incident unfolded following a night out on the town, as our girl decided to take a dip in the sea after leaving a club on Brighton's iconic promenade.

The local authorities got wind of the situation and promptly dispatched lifeboats, coastguard helicopters, police, and ambulance crews to launch a massive search-and-rescue operation. After hours of tireless effort, Betty's body was discovered on Brighton's seafront at Black Rock.

She was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, but sadly, doctors were unable to save her. The preliminary cause of her demise was determined to be a cardiac arrest, with drowning as a contributing factor.

An inquest into her death was scheduled to commence at Horsham Coroner's Court on April 29, 2025, with Coroner Joanne Andrews presiding over proceedings. The investigation is not being classified as suspicious in nature.

Betty's loved ones were notified of her passing, and the community of Lewes has expressed its condolences to the family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Betty.
