Pope Leo XIV Slams JD Vance on Social Media Amid Ascension to Vatican Chief

Tweet from Robert Prevost Criticizing JD Vance Published Following Election: Statement from Pope Leo XIV Included

Cardinal Robert Prevost, now commencing his reign as Pope Leo XIV, has eschewed the customary sanctity of his newfound position to share vehement opinions on American political figure JD Vance.

Within just a matter of days after Prevost assumed the mantle of leadership at the Vatican, critical social media posts directed at Vance came to light. In February, the 69-year-old cleric published a scathing critique on a platform known as X, under the article, "JD Vance is Wrong: Jesus Doesn't Ask Us to Rank Our Love for Others", a piece that harshly denounced Vance's interpretation of the Christian concept of love.

The backdrop of this public discourse stemmed from Vance's interview with Fox News, in which he championed the notion that love and compassion prioritize family, neighbors, community, and fellow citizens, successively extending to the world at large. Vance further stance aligned with those on the right-wing spectrum who argue that progressives have inverted this established order.

In response, Pope Leo XIV adopted a contrary stance, contending that Christian love ought to be boundlessly inclusive rather than ranked hierarchically. Further indicating his disapproval, the Pontiff posted yet another article sidelining Vance's views on immigration, titled, 'Pope Francis' Letter, JD Vance's "Ordo Amoris", and What the Gospel Asks of All of Us."

On X, Pope Leon XIV had also retweeted several posts contesting Vance's ideology regarding immigration detention and the subsequent treatment of migrants. A particularly notorious tweet admonished the United States for policies that not only result in the separation of families but keep them in appalling circumstances reminiscent of cages.

As Pope Leo XIV becomes the first American to step into the highest office at the Vatican, his criticism of JD Vance hints at a commitment to universal love, humanitarianism, and equality—values that juxtapose Vance's rhetoric on immigration significantly.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, congratulating Leo XIV on his election, expressing pride in witnessing the appointment of the first American Pope. Predicting an imminent meeting between the two, Trump anticipated a profound encounter.
