According to reports by gossip magazine TMZ, Wendt suffered a fatal heart attack. Upon examination of the death certificate from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, it became apparent that Wendt's heart simply couldn't take the strain. Coronary heart disease and high blood pressure played their part, alongside hypertension, renal disease, and high cholesterol levels. Wendt's mortal coil was laid to rest on May 28th.

Wendt graced every episode of "Cheers" during its run of more than eleven seasons. His performance brought Norm Peterson to life with a tender authenticity that made us all feel like we knew him personally. His talent was acknowledged during his six consecutive Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Wendt's acting career spanned beyond Norm, into projects like "The Tortellis", "Frasier", and even his own short-lived show, "The George Wendt Show".

News of Wendt's passing shook the entertainment industry. His longtime co-star and friend, Ted Danson, publicly mourned the loss, expressing his grief: "I'm devastated to hear that Georgie is gone. I send all my love to Bernadette and the kids. It's going to take a long time to get used to this. I love you, Georgie."

John Ratzenberger, who played Cliff on "Cheers", also offered his touching tribute to Wendt: "For eleven years on 'Cheers', we shared a stage, many laughs, and a front-row seat for one of television's most beloved friendships. George brought Norm to life with a subtle brilliance - the kind that makes it look effortless. That was his gift."
