TV Broadcasting Comes to a Close:
The beloved HBO series "And Just Like That...," the spinoff of the award-winning and cult classic "Sex and the City," has officially come to an end after three seasons. The series, which concluded with a two-part finale in August 2025, marked the end of the storytelling in the Sex and the City universe for now.
The decision to end the series was a thoughtful one, aiming to close the narrative at a satisfying point rather than continuing with diminishing returns. The third season was even extended with two extra episodes to provide a proper two-part finale.
Millions of fans followed the ups and downs in the lives of the four friends, identifying with them or often with one of them specifically, and essentially grew up with them. The series, which aired in the USA in 1998 and in Germany in 2001, was a global sensation. It was based on the books of sex columnist Candace Bushnell.
After the end of the six seasons of "Sex and the City" in 2004, two feature films in 2008 and 2010 comforted fans. However, the viewership numbers for the third season of "And Just Like That..." have declined. Some real fans of the four friends have been disappointed by the sequel series.
The final episode of "And Just Like That..." will be released in the USA on August 14th and in Germany on August 15th. The lead actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie Bradshaw, has commented that she is "deeply saddened" by the end of the series.
The series, open, relaxed, and funny, independent and self-determined, talked freely about the lives and sex lives of the four main characters before anyone else. In the sequel series "And Just Like That...," the friends are no longer in the "complex reality of life and friendships in their thirties," but in the "even more complex reality" over 50.
The departure of one of the main characters, Cattrall, remains unclear. Rumors about backstage disputes, especially with Parker, persist. Despite this, the owner of the house where Carrie lived in the West Village has applied for a gate for her staircase at the historic preservation office due to an increase in visitors.
Many fans have been watching "And Just Like That..." as a "hate-watch." The Guardian has commented that "And Just Like That..." was never as good as "Sex and the City." However, the series still managed to keep a dedicated fanbase, with fans of "Sex and the City" from the original generation still hoping that the series will continue someday.
As of August 2025, the "Sex and the City" franchise is concluded with "And Just Like That..." season 3, and no announced follow-up projects or continuations beyond this have emerged."
