TÜV Rheinland's Inspectr Uses Data to Transform Used-Car and EV Inspections
TÜV Rheinland has launched a new range of data-driven vehicle checks under the name Inspectr. Available since February, these services aim to bring more clarity to the used-car and electric vehicle markets. Four distinct analyses are now on offer, each designed to assess different aspects of a vehicle's condition.
The Inspectr services rely on an OBD-II adapter to pull data straight from a car's onboard systems. This allows for direct checks on key components without invasive procedures. The four main services include fault code diagnosis, VIN and mileage verification, battery health evaluation, and secure data erasure.
Battery assessment is particularly important for electric vehicles. It examines capacity, cell voltage, temperature readings, and potential defects—factors that heavily influence a used EV's value. Meanwhile, the data privacy feature ensures personal information is wiped from the vehicle's systems before resale.
At launch, Inspectr supports over 90% of relevant vehicle models globally. TÜV Rheinland has also teamed up with TÜV Nord and tech firm Carly to push for standardised data evaluations across the industry. Further expansion of compatible models is already planned.
The new services provide detailed insights into a vehicle's technical state and history. By using real-time data, they help buyers and sellers make more informed decisions in the used-car market. The partnership with TÜV Nord and Carly signals a move towards wider industry adoption of these standards.
