Turkiye's automotive market has witnessed remarkable growth in the first nine months of 2025, with electric vehicle (EV) sales soaring and the domestic EV brand Togg making significant strides. The total passenger car and light commercial vehicle market grew by 9.15% year-on-year to 927,647 units, with EVs accounting for 18% of total sales.
EV sales from January to September totaled 133,781 units, a staggering 119.9% increase from the previous year. Tesla maintained its lead with 27,420 units, while Togg sold 23,325 vehicles, demonstrating the growing popularity of domestic brands. The strong performance of EVs continued into September, with a 33.3% year-on-year increase to 12,924 units, raising their market share to 14.6%.
The success of Togg is particularly notable, with the launch of its newest model, the T10F, in September. Togg sells the T10F directly to customers in Germany via its own app, 'Trumore,' bypassing the traditional dealer network. This innovative sales strategy has contributed to Togg's impressive growth.
The overall market also saw significant growth in September, with a 25.71% year-on-year increase in total sales. Passenger car sales jumped 26.77% to 88,274 units, while light commercial vehicle sales expanded 21.66% to 22,028 units. The dominance of SUVs in the market continued, with 465,791 sales and a 62.7% market share. Sedans and hatchbacks followed with 22.3% and 14.1% market shares, respectively.
In terms of fuel types, gasoline-powered cars accounted for 46.6% of sales, followed by hybrids at 26.7% and diesel cars at 7.9%. Vehicles in the A, B, and C segments, which benefit from lower tax rates, accounted for 82.3% of the market, with C-segment cars leading at 56% of the market share.
The strong growth in EV sales and the success of domestic brand Togg indicate a shift in the Turkish automotive market. As the market continues to grow, with SUVs remaining dominant, the increasing popularity of EVs and innovative sales strategies could reshape the market landscape in the coming years.
