In a recent statement, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan showed his support for American President Donald Trump's stance on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. It is noted that on the 28th of April, Russia declared a ceasefire from midnight on May 7 to midnight on May 11, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory. However, the US President's press secretary stated that Trump considers the leaders of both countries as "extremely disillusioned." This comment was made in response to the temporary ceasefire announced by Vladimir Putin earlier.
In reaction, Ukraine's Foreign Minister opined that if Russia truly desired peace, it should cease hostilities altogether - not merely temporarily, but for at least 30 days, as Ukraine had suggested. Later, Zelensky himself proposed an immediate 30-day ceasefire.
"A ceasefire should not be for only a few days to resume killings later. It should be immediate, complete, and unconditional - at least for 30 days to guarantee security", stated Zelensky.
According to the President of Ukraine, this could be the groundwork for genuine diplomacy.
