Terror-Free Turkey: Parliament Forms New Counterterrorism Commission

A significant step in Turkey's parliamentary approach to counterterrorism has been taken with the formation of a new 51-member parliamentary commission aimed at achieving the "terror-free Turkey" goal.

This interparty parliamentary body, focused on legislating and overseeing counterterrorism policies, reflects cooperation among several political parties to address terrorism systematically through legislation and oversight.

Key political parties participate in this commission, with representatives from major parties actively involved. While the specific composition by party name and seat allocation is not detailed, the initiative emphasizes cross-party collaboration.

The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) submitted the most member nominations with 21, making it the largest represented party in the commission. The AK Party's delegation includes several high-ranking officials and committee chairs.

The Republican People's Party (CHP) nominated 10 members, and the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) contributed 4 member nominations. The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the New Road Party each submitted 3 member nominations.

Onder Aksakal, DSP General Chairman, and Zekeriya Yapicioglu, HUDA PAR General Chairman, will serve as commission members representing their parties directly.
