The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) disclosed that Pakistan attempted to execute a series of drone attacks on 36 Indian locations on May 8, using Turkish-engineered Asisguard SONGAR drones – a tactical drone known for its prowess and compact design.

The MEA's revelation came as Pakistan used these agile drones in the hope of infiltrating India’s borders. Built by Turkish engineers, the SONGAR is a locally-made armed drone, currently serving in the Turkish Armed Forces.

The SONGAR drones are geared towards stealthy missions, boasting surveillance and attack capabilities. Each unit carries a 5.56mm NATO-standard machine gun with 200 rounds of ammunition. These drones can operate up to a 3-kilometer radius and ascend to heights of 2,800 meters. They can function autonomously or remotely controlled. Plus, they're integrated with unmanned military vehicles, fortifying ground strike capabilities.

Moreover, the SONGAR features automated targeting, real-time imaging, and a "return-to-home" function when signal loss or battery failure occurs.

As a response to the unsuccessful drone attacks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly conversed with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expressing support for Pakistan’s actions and endorsing its demand for an international investigation into the April 22 incident.

Erdogan also expressed prayers and sympathy to Pakistan, while Turkey's Foreign Ministry beforehand denounced India's missile strikes and forewarned that continued military action could provoke "full-scale war."

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated since the April 22 incident, making this drone attack a notable development in cross-border hostilities. India has remained silent on Erdogan's remarks and Pakistan's recent actions.

The MEA emphasized that India remains vigilant and prepared to safeguard its territory against such threats.
