Turkey's Largest Forest Nursery Triples Sapling Production to Combat Severe Fire Season
Turkey is grappling with one of its most severe fire seasons, with over 1,351 forest fires recorded and more than 60% of its land parched due to drought. In response, the Eskişehir Forest Nursery has escalated sapling production to assist reforestation efforts. Originally producing around 20 million seedlings annually, the nursery has tripled its target for the upcoming year to approximately 9 million saplings. These saplings are primarily intended for provinces hard hit by recent fires, such as Bursa, Bolu, Bilecik, and Muğla. The Turkish General Directorate of Forestry operates the largest forest tree production center in Eskişehir, with the Eskişehir Forest Nursery playing a pivotal role in supplying saplings for reforestation and soil conservation projects. This increased production is a direct response to the devastating fires that swept through the country last summer. With Turkey facing one of its most challenging fire seasons, the Eskişehir Forest Nursery has intensified its sapling production to help restore burned forests. The nursery's increased output, now targeting 9 million saplings, is a significant step towards rebuilding Turkey's forests and combating the effects of drought and fire.
