The European Union (EU) is looking to deepen partnerships, with the EU's SAFE financing tool paving the way for collaborations like the one between Baykar and Leonardo. This move is significant, as the fundamental values of the EU—rule of law, democracy, and human rights—remain at the heart of its partnerships.

In international affairs, France, along with several Western countries, is expected to recognise Palestinian statehood during the U.N. General Assembly session from Sept. 8-23. This recognition will join 147 nations that already extend recognition.

Meanwhile, the ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to take a heavy toll. The bombardment has left Gaza uninhabitable and triggered starvation and disease. Regrettably, Israel's military campaign in Gaza has claimed nearly 65,000 Palestinian lives since October 2023, with most being women and children. Amnesty International has called on the UK to halt arms to Israel and enforce ICC warrants after a UN genocide report.

In a different context, France-Turkey relations are described as "quite intense" by the French ambassador. Leaders of France and Turkey regularly meet at summits such as the G20 and NATO. This dialogue between the two nations is expected to continue and intensify in the upcoming international events such as the U.N. General Assembly next week.

The French governmental body responsible for relations between France and Turkey is the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (Ministère de l'Europe et des Affaires étrangères).

On a positive note, NATO chief has reportedly backed Turkey's bid to join the EU's SAFE defense fund. The EU also wants to start technical talks with Turkey on visa liberalization after the summer.

In domestic news from Turkey, the Bayrampasa Mayor has been arrested in a corruption probe. Archaeological findings in Turkey have also been making headlines, with the Hittite site in Turkey yielding 56 cuneiform tablets and 22 seal impressions.

Lastly, Egypt's Tourism Minister is exploring investment with Turkey's NG Hotels Group. Google has also unveiled a $6.8B AI investment plan, signalling a commitment to technological advancement.

France and Turkey have been in constant consultation regarding the issue, including at the highest level. The French ambassador to Ankara stated that Turkey's stalled bid to join the European Union depends on meeting the bloc's fundamental values. The accession process for Turkey into the European Union remains contingent on demonstrating readiness to follow the EU's criteria.
