Turkey making landmark moves to safeguard its future amidst worldwide changes: Erdoğan
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has outlined a comprehensive vision for Türkiye's future during the 2025 Supreme Military Council meeting. The meeting, held at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, marked a significant milestone in Erdogan's vision for the "Century of Türkiye."
During his visit, Erdogan emphasised Türkiye's ongoing struggle to become the leading nation in its region within a reshaped global order. He highlighted a broad, integrated approach to national development, spanning security, democratic governance, economic growth, technological advancement, defense capabilities, and foreign relations.
The President expressed belief that this approach would help establish Türkiye as the regional leader despite internal and external challenges. He also paid tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s future, stating that their legacy forms the foundation of this vision.
The Supreme Military Council meeting did not discuss specific details of the national development approach. However, the council’s decisions on military leadership reshuffles are part of aligning military command with these strategic priorities.
Erdogan visited Ataturk's mausoleum before the Supreme Military Council meeting, and the ceremonial visit was attended by other council members. The military leadership participating in the meeting included Chief of General Staff General Metin Gurak, Land Forces Commander General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercument Tatlioglu, and Air Forces Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadioglu.
The Supreme Military Council meeting began at 12:10 p.m. local time. Attendees included Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin, and Defense Minister Yasar Guler.
Erdogan expressed optimism about the council's 2025 meeting, referring to it as a potential new milestone on the path toward the vision of the Century of Türkiye. The 2025 meeting is considered significant in Erdogan's vision for Türkiye's future.
