In a significant address before the annual meeting of the Supreme Military Council in Ankara on Tuesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan highlighted Turkey's strategic progress and ambitious plans for the future.

Addressing the gathering, Erdoğan referred to Turkey as the leading nation in its region within the reshaped global order. He expressed optimism that the 2025 meeting of the Supreme Military Council will be a significant milestone towards the vision of the Century of Türkiye.

The President outlined several historic steps Turkey is taking to safeguard its future. These include efforts to achieve a terror-free Türkiye, strengthen the indigenous defense industry, and strategically reshape regional influence, particularly in Syria.

In his speech, Erdoğan highlighted significant progress in ending terrorism, especially noting the dismantling of the PKK terror group, which imposed conflict on the country for 47 years. He stated that Turkey is close to freeing itself from terrorism’s “shackles” and that their messages instill reassurance in allies and fear in adversaries.

The President also praised Turkey's domestic defense industry growth, reporting over 80% localization in defense production. He emphasized overcoming embargoes and diplomatic pressures and celebrated a sector with 3,500 companies, 100,000 skilled workers, 1,380 projects, and a $20 billion turnover. This move toward defense manufacturing self-sufficiency is a strategic cornerstone for future security and independence.

Another key aspect of Erdoğan's strategy is the development of nuclear energy. Although facing challenges with delays and financial/diplomatic tensions with Russia, Erdoğan’s government is investing in the Akkuyu nuclear power plant. This project symbolizes Turkey’s development toward becoming a nuclear energy power, expected to contribute significantly to the national electricity supply and underscore technological progress.

In Syria, Erdoğan is leveraging geopolitical shifts to establish a neo-Ottoman order in the Middle East anchored by Turkey’s leadership. By supporting factions in Syria over the past decade and capitalizing on the power vacuum, Turkey aims to reshape the region strategically to secure its long-term influence and security interests.

The President's speech was a reading of a message written by him and was delivered at the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The occasion was a ceremonial visit before the Supreme Military Council meeting, and President Erdoğan was accompanied by members of the Supreme Military Council.

President Erdoğan paid tribute to Ataturk and to lives sacrificed for Turkey's future during his speech. The location of the speech was Ankara. The speech underscored Erdoğan’s multifaceted strategy to safeguard Turkey’s future by securing internal stability, achieving economic and technological independence in defense and energy, and shaping regional geopolitical dynamics to Turkey’s advantage under the overarching "Century of Türkiye" vision.
