Turkestan Trial: Cousins Face 9 Years for Raping Man with Disabilities
A trial is nearing its end in the Keles District Court of Turkestan Region, with three adult cousins facing charges of repeatedly raping a 24-year-old man with developmental disabilities. The trial is being held behind closed doors.
The victim, who has the mental age of a 4-year-old, was allegedly abused by his cousins and neighbors for many years. The prosecutor has requested a 9-year prison sentence for all three defendants, who are accused of repeated group rape, and in the case of one defendant, theft.
The trial comes after two men were convicted earlier in Pavlodar for abusing underage siblings. However, there is no information available regarding their identities. Initially, six people were suspected in the Turkestan case, but only three are currently on trial.
The 'NeMolchi.kz' foundation reported the incident in March 2025. The trial's outcome is eagerly awaited, with the hope that justice will be served for the vulnerable victim.
