Turin expresses a pang of regret and a longing for the past, saying, "I'm disgraced, I wish I could return."
In the early hours of June 30, 2025, an explosion rocked an apartment building on via Nizza in Turin, Italy. The blast, which occurred at 3:10 AM, claimed the life of Jacopo Peretti, a 33-year-old man who was sleeping in one of the affected apartments. The perpetrator, Giovanni Zippo, a 40-year-old security guard, was severely injured in the explosion and is now under investigation for the crime.
Initially, the incident was believed to be an accident, but investigations have since revealed that Zippo deliberately caused the explosion at an empty apartment in the building. Witnesses reported seeing him enter the building late at night carrying a bag, and he was seen running away from the scene immediately after the blast. Despite his injuries, Zippo did not seek immediate medical help, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The motive behind the explosion appears to be linked to a personal dispute. It is reported that Zippo had a secret relationship with Magdalina Ionela Hagiu, who was engaged to another person at the time of the explosion. Their relationship had reached its end, and it is believed that Zippo targeted Hagiu's apartment for revenge. However, tragically, it was Peretti who lost his life in the explosion.
Zippo was hospitalized in the burns unit at Cto hospital, where he underwent surgery to treat his injuries. He initially claimed to have fallen down the stairs at Grugliasco station, but his burns seemed incompatible with an accident. The investigation also revealed that the GPS signal of the automobile K74, used by Securitalia's vigilantes, lost its signal at 2:34 AM on the night between Sunday and Monday, around the time of the explosion.
The news of the explosion reached Zippo's sister, Giulia, who contacted the security guards 24 hours after the incident. When asked if the address meant anything to them, they recognized it as the residence of Magdalina Ionela Hagiu. Zippo's colleagues also noticed that his wounds could be related to the via Nizza explosion.
Zippo's friends visited him at his house to convince him to tell the truth about the explosion, but he initially resisted. It was only when they told him that two seriously injured children and a young man had died that he broke down and agreed to turn himself in to the police.
The investigation continues, and it remains to be seen what further evidence will emerge. However, it is clear that this tragedy has had a devastating impact on the lives of those affected, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
