More safety while evening surfing on the Eisbach wave - TUM Illuminates Eisbach Waves for Safer Evening Surfing

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has installed new lighting at the Eisbach waves, aiming to boost safety during evening surfing sessions. The installation took place during the river's annual maintenance, with the lights set to illuminate the waves for the first time this Friday evening.

The Eisbach wave, a popular surfing spot since 1975 and officially tolerated since 2010, will now offer safer conditions for surfers after sunset. Surfing will be permitted from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the buddy system mandatory for all participants. Only individuals aged 14 and above, who are physically fit and experienced, may venture into the water. The fire department can activate brighter lighting if needed for rescue efforts.

The new lighting at the Eisbach wave, installed by the TUM, will enhance safety and extend surfing hours. Surfers can now enjoy the waves with improved visibility during evening sessions, with the first lighting scheduled for this Friday.
