Florian Lipowitz, the German cycling pro, decisively holds onto his podium position at the Critérium de Dauphiné, following a commanding performance from Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar. Lipowitz, representing Team Red-Bull-Bora-hansgrohe, secured a commendable third place in the general classification.

Pogacar, the Slovenian phenom, left his opponents in the dust during the queen stage. Featuring iconic Tour de France climbs, Col de la Madeleine (1991 meters) and Col de la Croix de Fer (2063 meters), Pogacar blazed through the 131.6 kilometers, climbing relentlessly. He finished 14 seconds ahead of his Danish rival Jonas Vingegaard, easily maintaining a comfortable lead, while seemingly easing off in the final 500 meters.

Lipowitz managed to finish just over a minute and twenty-one seconds behind Pogacar, consolidating his third place in the general classification. Belgian double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) lost significant ground, finishing fifth, propelling Lipowitz further up the rankings. With a gap of 2 minutes and 21 seconds, Lipowitz remains a distant contender, as Pogacar remains almost unbeatable before the final stage on Sunday. Pogacar has a lead of 1 minute and 1 second over Vingegaard.

The Dauphiné, traditionally regarded as a key warm-up event for the Tour de France, set to begin on July 5 in Lille, concludes on Sunday with another mountain stage finish at Plateau du Mont-Cenis (2095 meters). The last German to finish third at the Dauphiné was Emanuel Buchmann in 2019, who then delivered a strong fourth-place finish at the Tour de France. The only German to win the race was Udo Bölts in 1997.

Florian Lipowitz, born on November 25, 1999, is a rising star in the cycling world. Prior to his tenure with Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, Lipowitz rode for the Tirol KTM Cycling Team in 2021. Recently, Lipowitz demonstrated his potential by securing 3rd place in the overall standings of the 2025 Critérium du Dauphiné. Throughout the stages, he displayed impressive performance, even on days when he didn't have his top form. His success in the Critérium du Dauphiné has bolstered his confidence and set a positive tone for future races like the Tour de France.
