U.K.'s Trump State Visit: Monarchical Greeting Amid Demonstrations - Trump's State Visit to Britain: Royal Welcoming Met with Demonstrations

In a grand display of British hospitality, Donald Trump, the former US President, was welcomed for his second state visit to Britain. The visit, which began on Tuesday, has been met with both fanfare and protests.

Upon arrival, Trump and his wife were greeted by Prince William, Catherine, King Charles III, and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle. The occasion was followed by a joint carriage ride around the castle grounds.

However, the warm welcome was not shared by all. The "Stop Trump Coalition," a broad coalition of around 50 organizations including climate protection and anti-racism initiatives, organized protests against Trump's visit. An estimated 3000 people attended these protests in London, with some holding placards reading "Migrants welcome, Trump not welcome" or "No to racism, no to Trump."

One protester, Lynn Iliffe from east London, displayed a sign with a derogatory label for each letter of Trump's name: "Tyrant, Racist, Untruthful, Misogynist, Putinist" (Tyrann, Racist, Untruthful, Misogynist, Putinist). Another demonstrator, Jo Williamson, expressed fear about the world being taken over by "bad people."

The Labour government may have deliberately chosen the date of Trump's state visit to avoid a potentially awkward speech by Trump. No public events in London are planned during his visit, and the usual speech before Parliament will not take place due to a parliamentary recess.

Trump's visit is not without its diplomatic significance. On Thursday, he will meet with the British prime minister, Keir Starmer, at Starmer's country residence, Chequers. A multi-billion dollar economic agreement on technology and nuclear power is expected to be signed.

Before his departure, the US President stated that he intended to use his visit to further develop the bilateral trade agreement signed in May between the USA and the UK. The two countries had reached a fundamental agreement on tariffs and trade at the beginning of May.

The military ceremony during Trump's visit was the largest in honor of a state guest in recent British history, involving around 120 horses and 1300 soldiers. However, opponents of Trump gathered in Windsor on Tuesday evening to protest against his visit, with the group "Led by Donkeys" projecting images of Trump with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein onto Windsor Castle, resulting in several arrests.

Trump's state visit to the UK makes him the first US president to be honored with a second state visit to Great Britain. This visit, marked by both grand ceremonies and vocal opposition, promises to leave a lasting impact on UK-US relations.
