Chatting with the White House:

Donald Trump, our former president, seems a bit undecided about a hot new proposal by Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley. If you're not familiar, Hawley's been pushing for a raise in the federal minimum wage to a whopping $15 per hour.

"I ain't seen it, gotta have a chat with Josh," Trump said from the Oval Office the other day. "That's an interesting move from Josh. You gotta ponder that one."

Hawley teamed up with Democratic Sen. Peter Welch last week to roll out the Higher Wages for American Workers Act. If it gets the thumbs-up, the bill would boost the current federal minimum wage from $7.25 to a cool $15.00 an hour.

Funny thing is, around 31 states are already requiring businesses to cough up more than the federal minimum wage. Iowa's in that list, too, where Hawley calls home.

Trump wasn't exactly jumping for joy over the prospect. "Some folks are for it, some ain't," he said, sitting behind the Resolute Desk. "Some say it chases business away, particularly restaurants and clothes stores. Others declare it's awesome. I'll have to ask Josh what's what."

Hawley's all about siding with the working folks on this one. "If we're truly a party for the people, we gotta help 'em," he told NBC News. Seems like he's been itching to give the working class a raise.

But here's where things get interesting. Hawley's been toying with an economic populist agenda, just like Trump did back in the day. Take the partnership with progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders in February, where they teamed up to cap credit card interest rates at 10%.

Yesterday, Hawley sided with the progressives once more, shooting down aRepublican-backed bill that aimed to regulate the cryptocurrency market. Hawley's office stayed mum on this story.

Apparently, Trump's unsure if Hawley's minimum wage increase fits with his own agenda. Let's face it, it's a tricky balancing act between helping folks and avoiding hurting businesses. With Trump and Hawley set to chat soon, we'll have to wait and see what the final decision's going to be.

  1. The proposed increase in the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour, as outlined in the Higher Wages for American Workers Act, is a contentious policy-and-legislation issue that has caught the attention of both former President Donald Trump and Senator Josh Hawley, with Trump expressing his need for more information before making a decision, as businesses are concerned it may drive them away.
  2. As both Donald Trump and Senator Josh Hawley navigate the complex world of politics, their stances on key issues like minimum wage, cryptocurrency regulation, and economic populism often intersect, highlighting their general-news relevance amid ongoing policy debates and legislation.
