"There's no denying the buzz around Greenland," Frederiksen told broadcaster TV2. She appeared to echo Trump's position from the phone call, which lasted approximately 45 minutes.
Asked about her worry over Trump's potential moves, Frederiksen, however, expressed concern for the security of the West and Denmark as a nation, saying, "I hope everyone, including the Americans, will respect that Greenlanders should determine their own paths."
The High Stakes Game
Denmark's government leaders held discussions with opposition leaders on the matter last week, with Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stating that Denmark was not dragged into a foreign policy crisis.
Frederiksen declined to declare the current state of affairs a crisis, but admitted that it was indeed serious.
