Trump's presidency praised for steering the Ukraine conflict by Carney
Canada has reaffirmed its strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and continued fight against Russia's illegal invasion. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced an additional $2 billion CAD in military aid, including drones, armored personnel carriers, and ammunition, to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities.
The diplomatic efforts, which Canada is a part of, are strengthened through the "Coalition of the Willing," a group that envisions contributing to peacekeeping or peace enforcement if a ceasefire deal is reached. Canada, alongside Ukraine and other partners, is insistent on Ukraine deciding its own future.
Prime Minister Carney's stance on social media and in statements emphasizes the importance of Ukraine's role at the negotiation table. He praised the U.S. government's efforts to end the war and believes that President Donald Trump's leadership presents an opportunity to achieve this goal.
The diplomatic efforts are backed by military pressure on Russia and economic sanctions. However, the August 2025 meetings involving President Trump, President Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ended without a ceasefire agreement.
Undeterred, Canada continues to work closely with Mr. Zelensky and other partners to find a resolution to the decade-long conflict. The goal of these diplomatic, military, and economic efforts is to allow the war in Ukraine to end.
