Trump's Gifted Florsheim Shoes Don't Fit His Allies' Feet
Former US President Donald Trump has been gifting mid-priced Florsheim oxfords to male officials in his circle. However, the shoes—handed out to figures like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance—appear to be the wrong size. Both recipients reportedly received pairs that are too large for their feet.
Rubio and Vance, along with an unnamed politician, provided Trump with their shoe sizes: 13, 11.5, and 7 respectively. Despite this, the Florsheim oxfords they received did not fit correctly. The issue may stem from common mistakes men make when selecting dress shoes, such as confusing US and EU sizing charts or ignoring width measurements like D versus EE.
Florsheim advises customers to size up if they fall between two measurements, as athletic shoes often run half a size larger than dress or casual styles. Dress shoes are also designed to feel snug at first, gradually loosening as they break in. Jake Woolf, a menswear content creator, suggested the poor fit could result from a lack of skill in choosing the right size or simple user error. The problem is further complicated by inconsistent sizing across brands—and even within the same brand. Florsheim shoes generally fit true to size, but the specific style Trump selected tends to run narrow. Studies also debunk the myth that shoe size correlates with physical attributes like height or penile length, a misconception some men hold when selecting footwear.
The mismatched shoes highlight the challenges of finding the right fit, even when sizes are provided. Florsheim's guidelines and the variations in sizing standards mean that careful measurement and brand-specific adjustments are essential. For now, Rubio, Vance, and others may need to exchange their gifts for a more comfortable pair.
