Nick Wilder: Staying Positive Despite the Trump Era

Nick Wilder, the 72-year-old thespian and author, continues to maintain his optimistic outlook amidst the tumultuous political climate, particularly in his adopted home—Montana. Since his return from Europe in early June, he hasn't encountered any supporters of President Trump, a encouraging sign for the state where the Republican party holds a strong majority.

Wilder, a native of Fehmarn, remains adamant about Trump's impending downfall. He believes that internet access allows people to bypass the president's attempts at controlling the free press since his inauguration. "Too much is happening," Wilder remarks.

Gazing back at history, Wilder advises delving into history books. He argues that, much like the Weimar Republic, the current state of democracy in the U.S. is precarious, with Trump already taking numerous steps during his first hundred days to undermine it.

Speaking about the conservative agenda proposed for 2025, Wilder expresses concern. If implemented, he fears it would transform America into a place he wouldn't want to live in.

Despite the bleak scenarios, Wilder's optimism remains unwavering. He reflects, "My glass has always been more than half full. But sometimes it's painful until something good happens. Even in the land of 1,000 possibilities."

During the summer of last year, Wilder portrayed the villain Emery Forster in the Karl-May-Spiele in Bad Segeberg. To television audiences, he may be best known as the long-term ship's doctor from "The Love Boat."

While Wilder's specific views on Trump's impact on Montana and his conservative agenda for 2025 are scarce, it is known that the conservative agenda associated with Trump in 2025 includes measures like extending tax cuts, reducing regulations, and potentially gutting federal funding for public education[4]. Montana, a state with a significant conservative representation[1], may be influenced by such federal conservative agendas. Additionally, a notable court ruling in Montana found the state had violated the constitutional rights of young people by promoting fossil fuel use[5], reflecting a tension in Montana politics between environmental concerns and conservative fossil fuel policies.

Nick Wilder, despite residing in a state (Montana) which leans towards the Republicans and supports President Trump, has yet to encounter any of the president's advocates since his return from Europe. In light of the controversial conservative agenda proposed for 2025, Wilder expresses apprehension that America might undergo transformative changes, fearing it could lead to a nation unsuitable for his habitation.
