Let's Take Down Iran's Nuke Program, Gen. Keane Suggests
Trump's backing of Israel presents a chance to eliminate the Iranian government, according to Gen. Keane.
Retired General Jack Keane believes we have the chance to wipe Iran's nukes off the map, as tensions between Israel and Iran heat up. Heshared his thoughts on Fox News' "Mornings with Maria."
The ongoing conflict, now in its fifth day, is on the verge of intensifying, with Israel targeting Iran's nuclear facilities and speculation over potential U.S. intervention.
Keane thinks it's about time we took action. "I think it's the right thing to do," he said, referring to the possibility of eradicating Iran's nuclear ambitions.
The ex-four-star general discussed President Donald Trump's backing of Israel while maintaining his stance that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons.
*IRAN CAN'T HAVE NUKES - LET'S MAKE SURE OF IT*
"Trump is backing Israel 100% to finish what they started," Keane stated. "Their focus is Iran's nuclear program and they're determined to cripple it as much as they can, eliminate their leadership, and disable their ballistic missiles."
According to Keane, Israel is making significant progress in these areas. He noted Israel's "unprecedented imagination and covert capabilities" to disrupt Iran's nuclear aspirations, but pointed out the challenge of taking out underground nuclear sites.
"Israel knows that deep-buried sites are hard to hit, even with their impressive capabilities," Keane said. "I think they'll need U.S. assistance to accomplish this endgame."
"After all, the president has made it clear that he won't allow Iran to have nukes," Keane added.
Trump apparently backed this approach too, as he abruptly left the G7 summit earlier to call his team together in the situation room. He also cautioned everyone to evacuate Tehran "immediately" via his Truth Social platform.
Keane talked about Israel's Operation Rising Lion, highlighting their ingenuity and stealth to undermine Iran's nuclear progress, military assets, and leadership. But he also acknowledged the challenge of bombing underground facilities.
"I'm assuming they'd love U.S. help to neutralize those remaining sites," Keane said.
Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) recently echoed similar sentiments, stressing that we must not let Iran rebuild its nuclear program following any airstrikes. Hagerty pointed out that the Ayatollah has always been willing to accept an airstrike in hopes of recovering some nuclear capabilities.
Keane proposed a limited, focused air campaign using specialized bombs capable of penetrating hardened or deeply buried facilities to ensure Iran's nuclearProgram cannot recover after the attacks. The goal is to eliminate Iran's nuclear ambitions, curb a potential nuclear arms race in the Middle East, and reduce Iran's influence as a key player in the region.
Despite the talk of an air campaign, it's crucial to note that the U.S. and Israel have no intention of launching a ground invasion of Iran. The plan is purely to use airstrikes to accomplish these objectives.
