Trump's 20-Point Peace Plan Aims to Transform Gaza
US President Donald Trump has proposed a 20-point peace plan for Gaza, accepted by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and currently under consideration by Hamas. The plan aims to transform Gaza into a terror-free zone and deny Hamas any role in its affairs.
The plan envisions a temporary transitional Palestinian committee governing Gaza, overseen by a 'Board of Peace' chaired by Trump. This committee will prepare a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood. Hamas members agreeing to lay down arms and coexist peacefully with Israel will receive amnesty and safe passage to host countries. The end of fighting will see the release of all Israeli hostages within 72 hours, with Israel releasing remains of 15 deceased Palestinians for each Israeli hostage returned. Israel will withdraw forces to an agreed line inside Gaza, and release 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 detained since the conflict started, in exchange for Israeli hostages. The plan also includes the demilitarization of Gaza and its administration by a committee of Palestinian technocrats and international experts under a new international 'Peace Commission' chaired by Trump. It proposes an immediate end to the war between Israel and Hamas, contingent on both sides agreeing to a list of conditions.
Trump's peace plan, if accepted, could significantly alter the dynamics in Gaza. It aims to end the threat posed by Hamas to Israel, expand humanitarian aid, and initiate dialogue for peaceful coexistence. However, its success depends on the agreement and cooperation of all involved parties.
