Trump Touchdown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

In May 2025, United States President Donald Trump touched down in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking his inaugural Middle Eastern visit since his recent reelection. The visit, underscored by optimism for the region's future, revolved around a series of pressing issues, including advocating for peace, economic development, and regional unity.

During his stay, Trump met with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss regional matters pertaining to U.S. efforts to dismantle Iran's nuclear program, bring an end to the conflict in Gaza, and address decreasing oil prices. These conversations were reported by the Associated Press.

The Saudi royal family, in conjunction with other GCC members, had planned a formal dinner in honor of President Trump. The GCC encompasses Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

The president commenced his Middle Eastern tour in Riyadh, where the Saudi-US Investment Forum was scheduled to take place, followed by visits to Qatar and the UAE. Regarding possible international discussions, Trump hinted at a potential detente between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, set to take place in Turkey on Thursday.

The visit encompassed an optimistic vision for the Middle East—a region teetering on the brink of prosperity and peace, with a new generation of leaders poised to steer commerce and technological progress as priorities, rather than succumb to conflict. Moreover, Trump pointed to the success of the Abraham Accords as a testament to regional diplomacy and peacemaking efforts.

Throughout his discussions, Trump highlighted the importance of combating terrorism and extremism regionally, building upon past achievements, such as the defeat of ISIS and the imposition of sanctions on Iran. The president stressed the significance of regional unity in addressing these shared challenges and pursuing a stable and secure Middle East.
