President Trump to Host Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony

President Donald Trump has announced that he will be hosting this year's Kennedy Center Honors, an annual event that honours artists and influential cultural figures. The ceremony, which takes place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., is set to be a significant event according to the President.

Trump's appointment as the host of the Kennedy Center Honors comes after he appointed himself chair of the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees earlier this year. However, the President did not specify his role in hosting the ceremony, including whether he will emcee the event.

The Kennedy Center Honors has seen some notable hosts in the past, including Queen Latifah and David Letterman. It remains to be seen how Trump's hosting will compare to his predecessors.

Several Kennedy Center honourees have had varying relationships with President Trump. Gloria Gaynor's 1978 classic "I Will Survive" was often played at Trump's campaign events last year. On the other hand, Gene Simmons, a member of the band Kiss and a Kennedy Center honoree, was a supporter of Trump at the start of his first term but later became a critic. Paul Stanley, the frontman of the band Kiss and another Kennedy Center honoree, derided Trump's efforts to remain in office as "abhorrent" after losing the election to Joe Biden.

Other Kennedy Center honourees, such as Sylvester Stallone and Ace Frehley from the band Kiss, have publicly supported Trump in both of his terms. In fact, Stallone was tapped by Trump as a special envoy to Hollywood earlier this year.

President Trump has also praised the acting skills of Michael Crawford, who he has appointed as a special envoy to Hollywood. George Strait, a country music legend and a Kennedy Center honouree, has also shown support for the President, praising law enforcement during a concert hours after the July assassination attempt.

Despite the President's announcement, there is no evidence or credible information indicating that Trump was involved in hosting the 2022 Kennedy Center Honors. The Kennedy Center Honors for 2022 would have been held prior to the leadership changes Trump made to the Kennedy Center in early 2025, which included dismissing its previous Board of Trustees. Therefore, Trump did not have an expected role in hosting or organizing the 2022 event.

The President has stated that he did not insist on hosting the Kennedy Center Honors, but he believes it will be successful. He aims to revamp the cultural event in his image, but the specifics of his plans remain unknown.
