US President Donald Trump has reduced the deadline for Russia to end its attack on Ukraine, from 50 days to "ten to twelve days." The new deadline started today, as announced by Trump during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Trump made the announcement in response to continued Russian attacks on Ukraine. He expressed his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin for continuing the attack, specifically mentioning the killing of many people in a nursing home in Kyiv.

Trump also threatened Russia with tariffs of around 100 percent if there was no deal for a ceasefire or peace agreement by the end of the previous deadline. The tariffs would be imposed on Russia's trading partners.

Initially, Trump had set a 50-day deadline on July 14, aiming at a Kremlin-friendly settlement. He indicated a willingness to accept many of Russia’s demands, such as recognition of Russian control over occupied Ukrainian regions and ruling out Ukraine’s NATO membership.

However, by late July, Trump appeared frustrated by Russia's lack of progress toward peace. He shortened the ceasefire deadline to 10 days, signaling a shift to a less accommodating stance. This strategic move includes arming Ukraine through weapon sales to European allies and threatening harsher economic measures.

The Kremlin criticized the announced weapons deliveries and threatened sanctions, describing them as harmful to peace efforts. These deliveries were confirmed during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the White House.

The tariffs threatened by Trump could further weaken the economic base of the Kremlin by putting more pressure on major buyers like China and India. However, Trump did not specify which countries could be affected by the tariffs.

Moscow remains unimpressed by Trump's announcement and has continued its attacks on Ukraine in the following days. The US President's move is aimed at increasing pressure on Russia to end the attack on Ukraine and bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The US President's announcement of a shortened deadline for Russia to end its attack on Ukraine, amid continued war-and-conflicts between the two nations, underscores the community policy's emphasis on economic and monetary union being a crucial aspect of politics, as evidenced by the threat of tariffs on Russia's trading partners. This general-news development has sparked concerns about potential economic and monetary union implications in the case of a prolonged conflict.
