Trump's plan, titled "D.C. Safe and Beautiful," includes a federal crackdown on crime with an increased law enforcement presence, a directive for homeless individuals to move out of the city with promises of relocation "far from the Capital," and a commitment to jail criminals "where they belong."
This strategy is linked to his "D.C. Safe and Beautiful" executive order launched earlier in 2025, which created a federal task force to help reduce crime. Recently, about 120 FBI agents have been deployed overnight to assist D.C. police in tackling crimes including carjackings.
Trump has also declared a crime emergency in D.C., citing out-of-control crime that endangers public servants and disrupts the federal government. The declaration emphasizes the need for strong federal law enforcement to restore order, protect government workers, tourists, and citizens, and ensure the efficient functioning of federal institutions in the capital.
The former President has stated that the city has become dirty and less attractive, and that it was once the most beautiful city in the world. He aims for a rapid transformation to make the capital "safer and more beautiful than it ever was before."
Trump's plan also involves "beautifying" Washington, but details on this aspect have not been disclosed.
