Trump Reveals Plans for a $200 Million White House Ballroom Amidst Americans Struggling to Afford Food

The White House is set to undergo a significant transformation, with the construction of a grand new state ballroom in the East Wing. This 90,000 square foot ballroom, with a seating capacity of 650, will replace the temporary tents that have been used for large events on the South Lawn.

The project, estimated to cost $200 million, is being funded by President Donald Trump and other "patriot donors," rather than taxpayer dollars. The United States Secret Service will oversee necessary security enhancements related to the construction.

Clark Construction will lead the construction, while AECOM will manage the engineering. Notably, Washington-based McCrery Architects have been chosen to lead the project, ensuring the new ballroom will blend architecturally into the rest of the White House, maintaining its historical aesthetics.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed new details about the project on Thursday. Trump emphasized the importance of the addition to the White House respecting the existing building. Offices currently housed in the East Wing, including the office of the first lady, the White House Military Office, and the White House Visitors Office, will be temporarily relocated during the modernization process.

Trump has spoken about his desire for a bigger White House event space for some time. The new ballroom is expected to resemble the one at Trump's Florida club, Mar-a-Lago. The project is scheduled to start in September 2025 and aims to be completed before the end of President Trump’s term.

Updates regarding the project will be posted on the White House's website. This renovation is intended to provide a permanent, grand event space aligning with the White House’s historical aesthetics, replacing prior reliance on temporary outdoor tents for large gatherings.
