In a surprising turn of events, former US President Donald Trump offered advice to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on immigration issues during a meeting at his golf complex in Turnberry, Scotland on July 28, 2025.

Trump, in a stern tone, warned Starmer about the ongoing migrant crossings via the English Channel, labelling them as a "horrible invasion." He urged the UK government to take immediate action to address the crisis, fearing that failure to do so could lead to the loss of Europe as they know it.

Trump's advice centred on the need for stricter immigration enforcement and control to stem the flow of migrants entering the UK via the Channel. He specifically criticised Starmer for not knowing who the migrants crossing the Channel are, implying concerns about their safety and backgrounds, and labelling some as "bad people."

In contrast to his criticism, Trump did not condemn the arrival of "murderers and drug dealers" in the UK during his discussion with Starmer.

The discussion followed a meeting between the two leaders and was followed by an impromptu Q&A with journalists, during which Trump was asked for advice on migration issues and crossings of the English Channel. However, no handshake occurred between Starmer and Trump during their discussion, and no response was given to the question.

Interestingly, Trump also criticised London mayor Sadiq Khan for his handling of the situation. Boris Johnson, who was present at the entrance, shook hands with Trump but was not part of the discussion between Starmer and Trump.

In a separate development, Johnson expressed pride in having deported "35,000" undocumented individuals since July 2024. This statement was not mentioned during the discussion between Starmer and Trump.

Keir Starmer, during his discussion with Trump, did discuss transatlantic trade and tariffs in Scotland, but the focus of the meeting was not on migration issues. Bagpipes were playing during Trump's impromptu Q&A with journalists, adding a touch of Scottish tradition to the event.

No formal request for advice on migration issues was made by Starmer to Trump during their meeting. It remains to be seen how the UK government will respond to Trump's advice on immigration issues.

  1. Trump's advice to Keir Starmer on immigration issues, during their meeting at Turnberry, Scotland, centered on control and enforcement to tackle ongoing migration via the English Channel, echoing concerns about war-and-conflicts and crime-and-justice.
  2. The former US President, in a critique of Keir Starmer, expressed alarm over the influx of migrants entering the UK, making general-news connections between migration and the potential loss of Europe.
  3. Trump also took the opportunity to criticize London mayor Sadiq Khan for his handling of the migration situation, briefly shifting the focus from politics to war-and-conflicts and crime-and-justice.
