The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, located in the heart of Washington, D.C., played host to the 48th annual Kennedy Center Honors on Aug. 13, 2021. This prestigious award, a beacon of recognition for contributions to the performing arts in the United States, was bestowed upon five distinguished individuals: George Strait, the rock band KISS, Michael Crawford, Gloria Gaynor, and Sylvester Stallone.

George Strait, affectionately known as the "King of Country Music," was honoured for his lifetime achievements and significant contributions to American culture. With over 70 million album copies sold in the U.S. and a Grammy win for Best Country Album in 2009, Strait's impact on the music industry is undeniable.

KISS, a pioneering rock group, was also recognised for their groundbreaking work. Their unique blend of music, stagecraft, and showmanship has left an indelible mark on the rock genre.

Michael Crawford, a theater star, was honoured for his iconic role as the Phantom in "Phantom of the Opera." His performance in the musical has become synonymous with the role, making him a leading figure in the world of musical theater.

Gloria Gaynor, a disco-era singer, was honoured for her enduring influence on popular music. Best known for her hit song "I Will Survive," Gaynor's music continues to resonate with audiences today.

Sylvester Stallone, an actor and filmmaker, was honoured for his work in the "Rocky" and "Rambo" franchises. His iconic characters have become cultural icons, symbolising resilience and determination.

The award ceremony, typically honoring a few individuals each year, will be hosted by President Donald Trump and will air later that month on CBS and stream on Paramount+. The event will take place on December 7, 2025.

In other news, the U.S. has accused BOE of stealing Samsung's technology, but the impact on exports remains unspecified.
