Inquiry Made by Donald Trump Regarding the Nobel Peace Prize - Trump reportedly sought the Nobel Peace Prize
In a surprising turn of events, reports from Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv and other sources suggest that former US President Donald Trump discussed his aspirations for the Nobel Peace Prize during a call with Jens Stoltenberg, the former NATO Secretary-General and current Norwegian Finance Minister.
However, Stoltenberg himself did not comment on the conversation regarding Trump's Nobel Peace Prize prospects. In a statement to Politico, he acknowledged that Trump had called him to discuss tariffs and economic cooperation, but did not explicitly confirm discussing the Nobel Peace Prize. The topic of the Nobel Peace Prize was reportedly raised in their conversation, although Stoltenberg chose not to elaborate further.
This is not the first time Trump has inquired about the Nobel Peace Prize in discussions with Stoltenberg. The upcoming US-Russian summit in Anchorage is also perceived as an opportunity for Trump to pursue the Nobel Peace Prize. The Democratic opposition in the US suggests that resolving the conflict in Ukraine could be a means for Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize, established in 1901, is the only Nobel Prize not awarded by the Swedes. Instead, it is awarded by a five-member committee appointed by the Norwegian Parliament in Oslo. The purpose of Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, slated for the near future, is not clearly defined, despite numerous announcements.
Jens Stoltenberg, a Norwegian politician, served as NATO Secretary General from 2014 to 2021. The Norwegian Parliament appoints the committee that awards the Nobel Peace Prize.
