Doug Emhoff Dropped from Holocaust Museum Board by Trump Amidst Politics
Trump dismisses Douglas Emhoff, Vice President Harris' spouse, from the Holocaust Museum's board of directors - Trump removes Harris' spouse from the Holocaust Museum's governing body.
In an eyebrow-raising move, Doug Emhoff, husband of former VP Kamala Harris, was kicked off the board of Washington's Holocaust Museum by Donald Trump. On Tuesday, Emhoff took to X to voice his displeasure over the dismissal, branding it as politically motivated. "Never politicize the Holocaust and education about it," Emhoff posted. He continued, "Making a historical tragedy a political issue endangers the memory of the millions of Jews mercilessly slain by the Nazis, a memorial the museum aims to preserve."
Despite the bitter taste left behind, Emhoff vowed to keep fighting the good fight for Holocaust remembrance.
According to a report by the New York Times, Trump has been systematically emptying board seats occupied by Biden's appointees, with Ron Klain, former boss of Biden, and Susan Rice, Obama's national security advisor, gunned down as well.
Trump's Self-Appointment
Back in February, Trump stunned everyone by ousting several members from the Washington Kennedy Center's board and crowning himself chair – a first-time move for a U.S. President. Trump justified his choice by arguing he would weed out any liberal ideologies from the cultural hub and nix performances by drag queens, among other changes[5].
Emhoff, a Jew, snagged a spot on the museum's board courtesy of Joe Biden. Typically, 55 out of 63 members at the Washington Holocaust Museum are tapped by the President. Emhoff, during his wife's tenure as VP (2021-2025), took on traditional "Second Lady" duties, including supporting community projects and championing charity initiatives. He made history as the first "Second Gentleman" in U.S. history. With Harris' career on the backburner, Emhoff put his own legal practice on hold. Now, he's returning to his old firm, Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, splitting his time between LA and NY[6].
