He presented Trump with a custom golf club with engraved flags of Germany and the USA. Trump, a known golf enthusiast, was immediately seen trying out the putter at his Oval Office desk.
Trump and Merz share a passion for golf. Trump has previously played a round with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, forging a close bond since then. Merz too is known to dabble in golf.
Trump Returns the Favor with an Aviator Jacket
In return, Trump gifted Merz an aviator jacket and a copy of the patent for the "Flying Machine" of brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright from 1903. The patent was for an early aircraft design that later featured an engine. Merz, who holds a pilot's license, was undoubtedly thrilled.
Initially, during their Oval Office meeting, Merz presented Trump with a golden-framed copy of a historical birth certificate of Trump's grandfather Friedrich, born in Kallstadt, Palatinate, in 1869, and later an immigrant to the USA. Trump expressed his gratitude, commenting, "We'll hang it up."
