Trump receives regal greeting at Windsor Castle initiating his two-day excursion in the United Kingdom
President Donald Trump is currently on a two-day state visit in the United Kingdom, marking the second time he has made such a visit to the country. The visit, which took place during the reign of King Charles III, was filled with grand displays of pageantry and opportunities for diplomatic discussions.
Upon arrival, President Trump paid a quiet tribute at Queen Elizabeth II's tomb. The president and King Charles III later toured the Royal Collection Display, which featured a fascinating array of artifacts highlighting US-British relations. Among the exhibits were 18-century watercolours, documents, messages between Queen Victoria and President James Buchanan, a hot dog picnic note written by a young Elizabeth, and a large glass vessel given by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Trump also presented King Charles with a replica of an Eisenhower sword.
The Beating Retreat military parade ceremony was held on the castle's East Lawn, but a scheduled flyover by F-35 jets was canceled due to poor weather conditions. The Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force's aerobatics display team, performed instead. The visit included a grand dinner at Windsor Castle, where 100 staff members attended to 160 guests. The grand Waterloo table was set with 1,462 pieces of silver, 139 candles, and elaborate floral arrangements. The menu for the dinner included Hampshire watercress panna cotta, Norfolk chicken ballotine, and vanilla ice cream bombe.
The dinner also featured a star-studded guest list, including Tim Cook (Apple's CEO), Jensen Huang (Nvidia's CEO), Sam Altman (Open AI's CEO), and Nick Faldo (US Masters-winning golfer). Rupert Murdoch, whom Trump recently sued, was also present at the dinner.
The president and the prime minister, Keir Starmer, will discuss trade, technology, and geopolitical issues on Thursday. Thousands of demonstrators marched through central London to protest Trump's visit, and police arrested four people during the protests in Windsor.
Prince William and his wife, Kate, greeted the presidential helicopter and escorted President Trump and first lady Melania Trump to meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Camilla received a vintage Tiffany & Co. gold, diamond, and ruby brooch from Trump.
The bar offerings included a Transatlantic whiskey sour, Warre's 1945 Vintage Port, and Hennessy 1912 Cognac Grande Champagne. The state visit is a testament to the enduring relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom, and it promises to be an event to remember.
