Trump receives grand state ceremony during his official visit to the UK
The state visit of President Donald Trump to Britain commenced on Wednesday, with the Trumps and royals embarking on a carriage procession through the Windsor estate. This is Trump's second state visit to the UK, and the military ceremonial welcome for his visit is reportedly the largest in living memory.
The Trumps were kept far away from Britons among whom polls indicate he remains unpopular. Nevertheless, they were warmly greeted by Prince William and his wife Catherine. During the visit, the president described Prince Charles, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, as 'my friend.'
The Trumps will lay a wreath on the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II and will attend a white-tie state banquet. The ceremony involved 120 horses and 1,300 members of the British military, including a gun salute and mounted horses as part of the ceremonial welcome for Trump.
Britain is trying to keep Trump onside during international crises by dazzling and flattering him with this extraordinary show of pomp and pageantry. However, thousands are expected to attend protests in London on Wednesday.
The £30 billion investment budget for the next five years in the United States was announced by the British pharmaceutical group GSK during Trump's second state visit to the UK in September 2025. This investment is a significant boost for the US economy and further strengthens the economic ties between the two nations.
Unfortunately, the visit has not been without controversy. Starmer faces political troubles at home, after sacking his UK ambassador to Washington, Peter Mandelson, over a furore involving the diplomat's connection to the late Epstein. Additionally, four people were arrested for projecting images of Trump and Epstein onto Windsor Castle.
The president owns two golf resorts in the country, and his second state visit to Britain has been marred by the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk in the United States, causing deep turmoil in the country.
Despite the controversies, the state visit of President Donald Trump to Britain promises to be an eventful and memorable occasion, with the Trumps and royals set to engage in a series of official engagements and diplomatic meetings over the coming days.
